Hanamkonda: The Warangal Urban district will soon be transformed into a ‘Child Labour Free Zone’. Taking up the massive challenge, the district administration has decided to crack the whip on those employing children below the age of 14 years.

Carrying on their good work of the last couple of years, the Warangal Commissionerate Police has rescued 415 children this January as part of the Operation Smile-III.

Of which, 174 children are from other States. The aim of the mission is to prevent child trafficking and rescue children from the clutches of persons, who engage them in begging and other anti-social activities.

It may be noted here that following the Central government’s directions all the states and the Union Territories have been conducting the drive in the name of Operation Smile and Operation Muskan. The authorities have rescued 151 children in 2015 and 343 in 2016.

The administration found that majority of these children was working with the business establishments, brick kilns, cotton mills etc., besides begging.

Under the drive, specially trained police teams and the officials of the Child Welfare department visit the bus stations, railway platforms, religious places and shelter homes to find out the missing children and child labour.

After producing the rescued children before the Child Welfare Committee (CWC), either these kids were accommodated in the Children’s Homes or reunited with their families.

In a stern message, Warangal Urban District Collector Amrapali Kata said: “Those who employed the children have to handover them to their families or to the government agencies dealing with the child labour before February 15 or else face the criminal proceedings.”

Commissioner of Police G Sudheer Babu said: “Please let us know by calling the 0870-2510777 or messaging to WhatsApp number 9491089257 if anyone has information about employing child labour. Complainant’s details will be kept confidential.”

The Collector and the CP, in a meeting on Thursday, released a logo sticker that states ‘We didn’t employ child labour in our establishment’. These logo stickers will soon be displayed in all the business establishments and industries.

Meanwhile, the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) Chairperson K Anitha Reddy said that majority of children rescued by the authorities this year have been reunited with their families.

As of now, we have 42 children all belonging to other States and they too will be sent to their parents in about a week.
