Lok Adalat in Warangal to settle 2,500 cases tomorrow
With an objective to resolve pending cases before courts, a National Lok Adalat is scheduled to be held on February 11 in the district.
Warangal: With an objective to resolve pending cases before courts, a National Lok Adalat is scheduled to be held on February 11 in the district.
It is being organised at the directions of National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) and for the past 15 days the officials concerned have been engaged in making arrangements for the Lok Adalat, said District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Chairman and District Sessions Judge E Tirumala Devi.
So far, a total of 2,500 cases are identified for resolving through the Lok Adalat. The cases related to crimes, civil, electricity act, labour law, motor accident claims, pre-litigations, cheque bounce and others will be taken up for hearing, she told press persons here on Thursday.
Notices are issued to parties involved in the select cases and the litigants, whose cases are not listed for Lok Adalat, can approach the courts and get their cases registered for the day. Insurance companies, banks, police and other departments involved in the cases have also been informed, she said.
Lok Adalats are given statutory status under Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987 under which the award (decision) made by Lok Adalat is deemed to be a decree of a civil court and is final and binding on all parties and no appeal against such an award lies before any court of law, Tirumala Devi noted.
Lok Adalat has been proven to be an effective alternative dispute to redress mechanism, where disputes pending in the court of law or at pre-litigation stage are settled or compromised amicably by the concerned parties.
Arrangements are made at all courts in the district to conduct Lok Adalat as courts are not bifurcated and will function as they are before the districts reorganisation, she explained.
If a matter pending in the court of law is referred to the Lok Adalat and is settled subsequently, the court fee paid in the court is refunded back to the parties, the DLSA chairman informed. The DLSA secretary G Neelima was present at the press conference.
