Police arrested large numbers of youth, students and political party leaders in Warangal

Warangal: Large numbers of youth, activists of student’s organisations and political parties were arrested by the police here on Wednesday in view of the JTAC protest rally in Hyderabad.

As many as 800 activists were taken into preventive custody in Warangal Urban, Warangal Rural, Bhupalpalli, Mahabubabad and other districts to prevent them from attending the unemployed youth rally planned on Wednesday in the State capital.

The police have set up check posts at Madikonda on Warangal-Hyderabad road, Mamnoor on Warangal-Khammam road, Narsampet road, MGM junction, Kazipet railway station and other places and conducted inspections.

Those suspected to be going towards the capital to attend rally were detained.Several activists of TJAC and student organisations were taken into custody since Tuesday night and they were detained at nearby function halls and other places.

On Wednesday the activists of DYFI and other organisations have staged protests and burnt effigies of the State government in protest against the arrest of TJAC Chairman M Kodandaram and student leaders.

The DYFI state vice-president D Tirupathi found fault with the government’s denial to grant permission to conduct the rally, which the JAC planned to organise in a peaceful manner. The police should release all the arrested activists, he demanded.

Meanwhile, at Warangal railway station the police detained city Congress working president Rajanala Srihari, who along with nearly 100 youth was going to Hyderabad to attend the JAC rally. He was taken to Intezargunj police station and was released later.

Speaking to presspersons on the occasion, Srihari has strongly condemned the arrests of student leaders and the JAC chairman. The State government was acting like fascist regime and suppressing democratic rights of the people.

‘It was sad that Kodandaram was arrested during mid-night hours like a terrorist’. The government instead of taking measures to address the issues raised by the TJAC was creating unwanted trouble in the State, he noted while asking Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao to keep his promise of filling up one lakh jobs.
