Make Pulse Polio 2nd phase also a big success: Jagtial Collector

​Jagtial: Appreciating the officials for conducting the first phase of pulse polio immunisation programme successfully, the District Collector, Dr A Sharath, told them to make the second phase scheduled on April 2 a big success with the same spirit.

He chaired a ‘Task Force Committee’ meeting with the officials to discuss about conducting the second phase of pulse polio immunisation programme in the district, at IMA hall here on Monday.

Polio oral vaccine would be administered to as many as 1,01,015 children on April 2 at about 600 centres established in villages, 1,000 centres in towns and cities along with 12 transit centres and three mobile centres and special centres set up at railway and bus stands along with main centres in the city, he explained.

About 315 health workers, 684 anganwadi workers, 785 ASHA workers, 1,064 NGO volunteers and 70 supervisors were deployed for the purpose. The Collector ordered the staff deployed for the pulse polio programme, to visit each and every household on April 3 and 4 and administer the vaccine to children below five years of age. He said not a single child should be left without administering polio drops.

As many as 152 risky areas have been identified in the district, with 941 children of five years of age and ordered the officials to concentrate first on those areas and administer the vaccine to all 941 children without fail.

Vaccine will be administered at the centres from 7 am to 6 pm along with creating awareness among the people by organising rallies with the school children in villages and at mandal headquarters. Wide publicity will also be given with flexis and pamphlets to make the district free from polio, concluded the Collector.

Joint Collector Dr A Nagendra, Rural Development Officer Narendar, District Rural Development Agency Project Director Aruna Sri and District Medical and Health Officer Dr Sugandini were also present along with others.
