Karimnagar: All the necessary steps were being taken for protecting every sapling that was planted under the plantation programme of Haritha Haram to transform Karimnagar into green city, said District Collector Sarfaraz Ahmed here in Karimnagar on Tuesday.

Participating in the third phase of Haritha Haram programme along with MLA Gangula Kamalakar here at Theegalaguttapally Railway Station on Tuesday, he said that it was the responsibility of everybody to take forward the ‘Telangana Haritha Haram’ of the State government and make it a grand success.

The District Collector said as part of the programmed, large number of saplings were planted by selecting a place in the city on each day. Around 5,000 saplings at the Police Training Centre, 8,000 saplings at MARKFED grounds, 25,000 saplings in Saravanan University, 5,000 saplings in Polytechnic College and 2,000 saplings were planted along the railway line.

Collector Ahmed said that every sapling was being protected by setting up tree guards and putting up fences at places where mass plantation of saplings were taken up. He urged people from all sections of the society to participate actively in plantation programme of Haritha Haram and make it a grand success, thereby converting Karimnagar into green city.

The Commissioner of the City Municipal Corporation Shashank, Mandal Parisahd President Vasala Ramesh, Rural Development Officer Raga Goud, Assistant Director of Horticulture Department Srinivas, MPDO Devandar, Tahsildar Raj Kumar and others were present.
