Encourage the farmers to adopt organic farming, which will enrich the fertility of the soil without harming the environment, advised District Collector Dr Preethi Meena. She was the chief guest at a training programme for farmers on ‘Param Paragath Krishi Vikasa Yojana’ (PPKVY) in Parvathagiri village of Mahabubabad district on Tuesday.

Speaking on the occasion, the Collector said that the Central government had introduced PPKVY scheme for encouraging the farmers to adopt organic farming in their fields. There is no harm for the environment with organic farming, moreover the soil will get enriched with fertility with organic farming.

By establishing 10 clusters in the district, organic farming will be taken up in about 50 acres. There is a great demand for organic farming and for the products produced through organic farming. Instead of using chemical fertilisers, it is better to opt organic manures prepared from cow dung, vermi compost, neem oil, panchgavya, psuedomonas, azatobacter and plasmobacteria for getting maximum benefits, she suggested.

The government had introduced several schemes for carrying out farming on subsidies and the farmers must utilise them judicially. The government had appointed agricultural officer for every 5,000 hectares. After conducting soil testing, suitable crop must be grown in the fields for getting maximum benefits, advised the Collector. Later, Collector Dr Preethi Meena distributed vermi beds to about 50 farmers on the day.

District Agriculture Officer Chatru Naik, Additional Director Satyanarayana, Agriculture Officer Rama Rao, Krishi Vignan Kendram Scientists Sarala Kumari, Chaitanya and Ramulamma, ZPTC Venkanna were present along with others.
