Jangaon: A humanitarian gesture by Jangaon police, who donated blood to help the victims of an accident that took place on Monday at Nidigonda village in the district, has received much appreciation from public.

According to the police, a speeding car and an overloaded auto-rickshaw collided with each other at the village on Warangal-Hyderabad national highway-163 under Raghunathpalli police station limits during afternoon hours.

In the incident, one man was killed while seven others were seriously injured. The police identified the deceased as Mede Kumar (24), a resident of Quilashapur in Raghunathpalli mandal. He suffered multiple fractures and died while being treated at Jangaon area hospital.

Kumar’s mother Yellamma was also severely injured in the accident. The other injured persons were identified as Nirmala, Maniamma and Narsiah of Vangapalli in Yadadri district, agriculture extension officer Karnakar and auto driver Lakshmaiah of Raghunathpalli.

The auto driver, who was in a serious condition, was shifted to NIMS, Hyderabad for better treatment A noted television anchor Mohammed Khayyum, also known as Lobo, was also suffered minor injuries in the accident. He was said to be driving the car when the accident took place. The other three occupants in the car were unhurt.

Lobo along with his crew was going back to Hyderabad after shooting a show on historic places in Warangal and Jayashankar Bhupalapally districts. The congestion on the road due to ongoing highway expansion works, overloading of auto and high speed of the car caused the accident, the police said.

The car’s left portion damaged as the auto-rickshaw was fully wrecked with the impact of the collision. On learning about the accident, Raghunathpalli SI Ranjith Kumar rushed to the accident spot and shifted the injured to Jangaon area hospital. Jangaon DCP Malla Reddy and Raghunathpalli circle inspector Chandrashekar Goud visited the injured at the hospital.

As the doctors declared that the injured needed blood transfusion, the DCP and the inspector donated their blood. The family members of the accident victims and public have lauded their gesture.
