Warangal: The staff nurses at Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Hospital (MGMH) on Friday staged a flash protest over the alleged irregularities in the transfers of nurses. The counselling for transfers of nurses was completed on Friday and the nurses boycotted their duties and staged a protest in the chamber of the hospital superintendent.

They demanded that the superintendent Dr D Ramesh Kumar review the process of transfers. Alleging that many irregularities cropped in the counselling, they wanted the official to look into the matter and take remedial measures forthwith. Many with small period of service were considered for specialist posts, said the head nurse Swaroopa Rani and a staff nurse Sudha Rani.

Nurses possessing certificates from Nursing Council of India should be considered for senior positions. On the other hand, some of the nurses serving at the hospital for many years managed to continue at the hospital with the influence from Telangana Employees Union leaders, they alleged.

The agitating nurses warned that they would continue their protests till the justice was done and irregularities were addressed. Ramesh Kumar assured them that he would look into the matter and take steps to address their demands.
