Warangal: The city Congress activists have staged a protest Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation (GWMC) head office in Warangal on Monday, objecting demolition of Indiramma Houses in the city.

A large number of beneficiaries and Congress activists led by city Congress working president Rajanala Srihari have gheraoed GWMC Commissioner VP Goutham and demanded him to stop pulling down the houses.

The Congress leader complained to the Commissioner that the corporation officials were demolishing Indiramma Houses at Indiramma Colony phase-I near Enumamula market in the name of widening of roads.

When the residents objected knocking down of the houses, the corporation officials were beating up the women and youth. Several complaints to the officials concerned yielded no result and that was why they were forced to stage protest, Srihari explained.

Later, he along with the residents submitted a petition to the Commissioner during the grievance meeting and wanted action against the concerned officials.

The Commissioner responding to the petition has consulted the engineering department officials and reportedly promised the residents to halt the works. The party leaders Ch Venkateshwarlu, K Kamalakar, V Tirupathi, Ch Radhika, Rajanarsaiah and others were present.
