Most make fitness goals as their new year resolutions. Going for a walk early in the morning, joining a gym, giving up on non-vegetarian food and so on. How do you keep them?

If you are not a morning person and resolve to get up early every morning for exercise, it is 9 out of 10 chances that you will quit this resolution sooner than you would imagine. Instead, choose a comfortable hour that you will not struggle with.

And, once you get into the daily rhythm then try getting up early, beginning with 15 minutes and increasing it slowly. This will work only if you make a habit of sleeping early. If you work late or are one of those night owls – then it is better, you shift your exercise schedule to the evening. You can begin with small duration and increase the time and distance you walk gradually.

A lot of people are taking to running, but it is not advisable to begin to run or jog without the warm-up period, hence begin with brisk walking. Your goal could be to begin jogging in a fortnight or a month. Take expert help and do it the right so you do not suffer any injuries that may force you to quit.

One more tip to ensure you follow your new exercise regime until you reach your goal is to choose a method that you enjoy. While Yoga is definitely rejuvenating and extremely beneficial in the long run, you could choose to begin with Zumba or aerobics to add fun element. When you begin to have fun, you will start looking forward to it. And when you get a hang of healthy lifestyle, it is easier to adapt to more disciplined exercise schedule.

If you want to start to learn swimming, choose the right instructor and a clean pool. The absence of either will ensure you quit sooner if not later. Try keeping the gym or pool as close to your home or office as possible based on your timings.

The more the distance the more the trouble. Last, but most important is to team up your fitness regime with healthy diet. Adapt good eating habits gradually, in installments. And, a nutritionist needs to be consulted before you adapt any dietary changes. Stay away from fancy diets; most are short term remedies.

P.S: Miracles don’t happen overnight.
