Sanjana Reddy will be marking her directorial debut with the film ‘Raju Gadu’. Before donning the hat of a director Sanjana dabbled with teaching maths, software, journalism and worked as an assistant to Ram Gopal Varma in the film ‘Rowdy’. The Raj Tarun and Amyra Dastru – starrer is slated to release on June 1.

As expected Sanjana is very excited about the film. “This is my first movie and more than challenges, I loved the job. The whole process was a learning journey for me. By the wrap stage of the film I have acquired a lot of technical knowledge of filmmaking.”

When she said that she wanted to pursue a career in filmmaking many did not approve her idea. She states, “People told me that it would take at least 10 years to make my film – five years to write a script and another five to get an actor for it. However, my concept was to find an actor who already has a producer (laughs).”

She adds, “In future too, I will be concentrating on the technical aspects.”

Recalling an interesting anecdote from the set of the film she says, “We were shooting in Rajamahendravaram and people flocked the set to see a woman helming the role of a director. I guess it was amusing for them as more than 100 people came to see the shooting and of course the hero.”

Talking about the film she shares, “Raj Tarun is in an unconventional role. He is a kleptomaniac, who keeps stealing stuff for reasons other than personal use or financial gain. He lands in a tricky situation and how he overcomes all the hurdles in his life is what ‘Raju Gadu’ all about.”

About her experience with Raj Tarun, she says: “He is one of the good actors. He very talented, a cinephile, he researches about his character before the shoot and works according to that. I have never seen someone so committed like him.”

Sanjana states that being a director is a technical job and anyone who is keen on it can be a director be it a man or a woman. “Nobody has any objections to working with a woman they just need talent and commitment,” Sanjana signs off.
