High stress, guilt, and workload concerns may be keeping women from using their time off. Women report experiencing more stress than men at home and work. They are also more likely to say that the mountain of work they would have to return to holds them back from taking time off. Women also worry more than men about vacation making them seem less committed to their work.

Speaking about why it is important for women to go on a vacation, Veeraja Rao, Assistant Prof. of Psychology Department, Osmania University, said, “Be it a working or a non-working woman, she is involved in things that are around her, and it is important for her to give herself a break apart from giving her time to other priorities. Every woman should associate herself with a social group so that her mind would be rejuvenated by involving in the activities that she likes. For a woman a vacation is like giving time to self.”

Speaking about vacation time, Anandi, a school teacher from Hyderabad said, “As a working woman or a house wife I feel that a vacation is a must because we are used to the monotonous way of functioning. A break is required to regain and charge ourselves. My vacation with family happens twice a year and with friends it happens at rare times. With friends I feel that a person can completely be at ease but when we go on a vacation with family there are certain responsibilities.”

Founder CEO of Travelyaari, Aurvind Lama, points out, "Quality of life is dependent on how one appreciates themselves and those who are around them. It could be with themselves, family or friends; but only vacations from a busy schedule can offer time to appreciate the people around you. Women are socialised to be the caretakers of others, more women than men have both a career outside the home and continue trying to juggle traditional responsibilities, after hours.

Women often struggle to achieve career goals, while trying to fulfil the perfect wife and mother responsibilities at home. This often gives them less time in nurturing their own emotional and physical needs. This is when vacations become important for women. Taking a good amount of time away from the stresses of daily life can give them the break they need so that they can return to their lives refreshed and better equipped to handle whatever comes by. They need to work, yet they need to get off being busy and experience a vacation, too."
