Education is not getting as much attention as it requires while infrastructure in the country requires a more erious push

The consul general who was speaking at the inaugural session of the two-day International Conference on Contemporary Issues of Economic Policy in Developing Countries at Maulana Azad National Urdu University in Hyderabad. The conference was organised by the Department of Economics in collaboration with Civil Services Academy.

The two countries are exploring the possibilities of improve bilateral trade, he said. T C A Srinivasa Raghvan, eminent writer on developing economies, in his keynote, dealt in detail with the political economics of India. The decade of 1960 was the worst so far but, “We have to be more vigilant to understand the new trends in economic development of the country,” he said.

Prof Khan Masood, Former VC Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti Urdu Arabi-Farsi University, Lukhnow, in his presidential address remarked that demographic dividend is becoming a liability. Effectiveness of governmental schemes is still not known. “Education is not getting as much attention as it requires while infrastructure in the country require a more serious push,” he said.

Dr Gautam Pingle, Director with MCRHRDI, spoke about the difference in per capita household income between Muslims and Hindus with special reference to Telangana. The economic factors that have been taken into consideration a while ago during surveys have to be relooked and reworked upon,” he said. Prof Farida Siddiqui, head department of economics and convenor of the conference, welcomed the guests and gave details about the conference theme.

Earlier, in the pre formal inaugural session Prof Debashis Chakraborty from IIFT and Prof Shankar Dutta of Basix spoke about policy making environment in India. Prof Amir Ullah Khan, Director, CSE was the moderator.
