Gone are the days when every student wanted to become a doctor or engineer, the gen-x is now looking for innovative and interesting careers. But sadly not many reputed education institutions are providing many options in their curriculum.

Breaking this boundary, Chinmaya Viswavidyapeeth, Ernakulam, Kerala, a deemed university has come up with innovative courses like music, dance, MA Sanskrit, Neetishastra, Darma, Puranashastra, Self-immersion. These courses are the brain child of Swami Chinmayanandji, who is the founder of the university, believes that every student should learn the ancient literature and have some knowledge about it.

The university was established in 2017 and is a de novo deemed university under the UGC and presently operates from two campuses, one being Chinmaya Eswar Gurukula campus at Peppathy in Ernakulam, Kerala and other in Chinmaya Naada Bindu Gurukula campus at Kolwan in Pune.

Speaking to the Young Hans, P Geerwani, Vice-Chancellor of Chinmaya Viswavidyapeeth, said, “Our main motto is to introduce ancient Indian knowledge and modern disciplines for our students. We are also giving scholarships for students of Chinmaya Vidyalayas, because we have trained each and every student here so well. Fees for the academic year are between Rs 40,000 and 50,000.

We always wanted to make innovative things in our university. We want every student to think in a critical way, their mind should be more innovative, they should be more problem solving, they should know how to communicate with others and remain critical at workplaces,”

Geerwani added, “The main objective behind this university is to integrate every subject where they have enough knowledge from ancient literature. We are giving certain foundation courses which we think any youth of this country should operate, for example Yoga and meditation,” “Our main aim is to introduce culture to the children because ancient knowledge is not reaching to student.”

University offers courses like BA Sanskrit, Advaita Vedanta, Sanskrit literature, BBA (Business Adminstration), B.Com and B-Psych (Psychology). Music and dance courses are offered at Kovan campus near Pune. The new UG, PG and Doctorate programmes are being added. We have a world-class library with rare manuscripts and internet facility for students.” She added

“We are introducing ancient knowledge in present subjects and slowly will build up a postgraduation programme too. Swami Chinmayanandji had one vision of making the present generation understand the importance of ancient knowledge and Indian tradition where life becomes a joy and work becomes worship.” She relates.
