Historical Youth Parliament initiation by DPS

Hyderabad: Delhi Public School, Nacharam has taken an initiative to train the young minds to become the leaders of tomorrow by organising a special session on Thursda, on “YouthParliament” for students of class X. It was held with an aim to involve the students by providing a wonderful dais to equip the future leaders with debating skills, problem solving attitude and leadership qualities to activate young people. The session was introduced by the vice-principal Nandita Sunkara and inaugurated by the principal, Sunitha Rao with the administration of oath to the ruling party ministers.

The participants donned costumes of popular politicians which featured the environment of the Parliament proceedings. The first session of the Youth Parliament began with the speaker and asked the Prime Minister to read the agenda and discuss on GST. The discussion carried on and the opposition parties posed various questions on which goods and services to be subjected to GST, and which tax to be levied by the centre, state and local bodies. The ruling party members could justify themselves amid opposition for every issue raised by the members of the opposition party by considering that GST would add momentum to the Indian economy.

The second session allowed passing a bill on “Good Health Facilities for the Citizens” which would enable the transformation of empowering citizens and building a healthier society. The bill proclaimed the vision to promote health care systems and to make necessary reforms and innovative solutions to become more resilient, accessible and effective in providing health care quality to Indian citizens. The proposed bill was unanimously accepted and passed by the Youth Parliament. The speaker declared the closure of the session.

In a nutshell, the day was an enriching experience for everyone involved and nurtured in promoting students’ interest in politics and to set themselves as role models for other students on how to make a difference. The responses also reflected the participants’ better understanding of politics and activities, and how to value different opinions.

 The vice principal applauded the participants for their interesting and thought provoking sessions which provided an insight to the students about how actual parliament works and gives them exposure related to politics in order to understand the national issues from their point of view.
