Overcoming challenges, harnessing potential

Hyderabad: Being visually challenged has not affected or demoralised the spirits, aspirations or determination of Nethra Vidyalaya students a wee bit. They want to succeed in life and prove to the world that they are no less than other students, who are not handicapped by any sort of physical and mental disabilities.

Vaishnavi and Dinesh, Intermediate second year students at Nethra Vidyalaya want to become IAS officers in the future. Quite a few visually impaired candidates have successfully cleared UPSC exams in the recent past and these two teenagers want to emulate the feat. Bhanuprakash wants to become a Software Engineer. He wants to invent an improved computer software that can be regarded as user friendly for blind students to operate laptops without much hassles.

Harshita, a CEC second year student wants to become a journalist. She became emotional when asked how she feels at ashram. She said that her parents have abandoned her, but she feels at home in the midst of her friends and always supportive teachers in Ashram.

P Krishna Kumari, incharge, Nethra Vidyalayas, stated that many of her students went on to reach respectable positions in their chosen fields. She recalled one student Trinadh Rao, who was recruited by Technology MNC Cisco Systems recently. Students enrolled in Nethra Vidyalayas hail from both Telugu states as well as from Gujarat, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Assam etc. The strength of Degree and Junior Colleges is 200 and that of school in Visakhapatnam is 110.'
