4 lakh students will be covered under Kanti Velugu in Nellore: Collector

Nellore : District Collector MV Seshagiri Babu said that 4 lakh students from 4,500 schools across the district are going to be benefited under YSR Kanti Velugu programme. He formally launched the programme at KNR Municipal High School here on Thursday and said the programme will be implemented in six phases which has been aimed at prevention of blindness.

The Collector said thousands of teachers, doctors, ANMs, and Asha volunteers were trained for implementing the scheme and they will take measures to identify problems related to vision and correct them. He said extensive arrangements have been made for the programme and asked the teams to perform in a systematic manner.

Seshagiri Babu said around 25 lakh people have been facing problems for vision and government will take steps to prevent possible blindness through the change in food habits, genetic disorders and providing Vitamin-A to them. For this activity, they would engage a huge number of doctors, he added.

Joint Collector Dr Vinod Kumar Vasudev said that students require a good vision for pursuing academic activity; otherwise they lose the spirit for continuing it. District Medical and Health Officer Dr Rajyalakshmi, Coordinator of the District Blindness Control Society Dr M Manjula and others were present.
