Nelapadu (Amaravati): The High Court of Andhra Pradesh on Thursday took up hearing on a batch of writ petitions filed by Post-Graduation medical colleges over fee structure decided by the Andhra Pradesh Higher Education Regulatory and Monitoring Commission (APHERMC) across the state. During the hearing, the petitioners contended that a uniform fee was fixed for all colleges, which is against the law.

On behalf of the state government, Advocate General S Sriram appraised the division bench on the GO released in 2017 during the previous government, where the fee was enhanced unreasonably without any reference to the Admission and Fee Regulation Committee (AFRC). The management of medical colleges accepted the fee then without any objections, he added.

Comparing the fee structure of two categories in 2017 and the three categories now, the Advocate General stated that a rational exercise seems to have been done by the commission and the government on the fee structure. The division bench adjourned the matter directing the petitioners to file further documents in support of their claim regarding fee fixations and scheduled the next hearing on June 16.
