Cancellation of recognition to Mohan Babu varsity sought
Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh State ST Commission former member Vaditya Sankar Naik urged the government to cancel recognition of Mohan Babu University, Tirupati, citing serious irregularities. He alleged illegal fee collections, withholding of certificates and violent attacks on student leaders.
Naik, founder of Girijana Praja Samakhya and Girijana Vidyarthi Samakhya, submitted a representation to higher education secretary Kona Sasidhar at the Secretariat seeking immediate intervention. He noted that the Andhra Pradesh State Council of Higher Education confirmed excess fee collections of nearly Rs 26 crore and ordered refunds, yet violations allegedly persist.
Despite a Rs 16 lakh penalty for withholding certificates, Naik said the university’s conduct remains unchanged. Condemning reported assaults and kidnappings of protesting student leaders by hired bouncers, he called the incident a blot on democracy.
Naik demanded arrests of those involved, a thorough inquiry, protection for student leaders, and strict action against the management to safeguard students and uphold higher education integrity.
