Chittoor: Bankers urged to meet credit target

Chittoor: Stating that only 51.75 per cent of this year's (2020-2021) annual credit plan was achieved, district collector Dr Narayan Bharat Gupta urged the bankers to gear up for achieving the target which was Rs 20230 crore.

Addressing the District-level Bankers meeting here on Thursday, the collector wanted them to avoid delay in sanctioning loans to the selected beneficiaries of the various government welfare schemes like YSR Cheyutha, YSR Bima and Jaganna Thodu on humanitarian grounds and also liberal financial support to sericulture and dairy sector keeping in view the geographical conditions of the district. The total target of lending including agriculture and non-agriculture sectors for the current 2020-21 financial year was about Rs 20,000 crore in which so far Rs 10,350.78 crore i.e. 51.75 per cent was met, he noted adding that this includes the priority sector target which is Rs 16,150.44 crore as against which Rs 8,003.66 crore (49.56 per cent) was fulfilled.

However, the collector said the district was standing first in the state with regard to SHG bank linkage loans of both urban and rural sector.

Chittoor MP Reddappa sought the support of bankers for the success of the government welfare schemes and also for the development of the district.

In the meeting, the performance with regard to various schemes like Stand Up India, Mudra, Pradhan Mantri Awvas Yojana, PM Swanidhi was also reviewed. Lead Bank Manager (LDM) Ganapathi said that there are 600 banks in Chittoor district, including 253 in rural areas, 200 in urban and 177 in semi-urban areas with a total deposits of Rs 44,665.46 crore while the total advances were Rs 34,113.86 crore and the credit-deposit ratio of 76.37 per cent this year which is more compared to the previous year which was 68 per cent.

Marking the occasion, the MP and the collector unveiled the Potential Linked Credit Plan of NABARD for 2021-2022 for providing loans to the tune of Rs 17,703 crore.

Joint collector (welfare) Rajasekhar, Indian Bank zonal manager Prabhakar Reddy, NABARD senior official Sunil, RBI lead bank officer Ravi Sankar, officials from various departments were present.
