Vijayawada: Congress terms Jagan's talks with KCR historic blunder

Update: 2019-09-24 00:03 IST

Vijayawada: Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) vice-president N Tulasi Reddy said Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy was committing a historical blunder by discussing sharing of Godavari surplus water with Telangana Chief Minister.

Tulasi Reddy said there was no need to discuss the issue with TS Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao as only Andhra Pradesh has the right over the surplus waters of Godavari. In a press release on Monday, the Congress leader said there is a scope to divert Godavari waters to Srisailam reservoir from Andhra Pradesh soil and questioned the need to divert it from Telangana.

He felt that it would not be possible to divert water 400 km from Telangana to Srisailam. Tulasi Reddy KCR can't be trusted and reminded that he criticised Andhra leaders when Krishna river water was diverted from Potireddypadu head regulator. He also recalled that Jagan himself had staged protests in Kurnool in 2016 opposing the construction of projects on Godavari by Telangana government.

Stating that the Telangana government was illegally constructing irrigation projects on Godavari, Tulasi Reddy expressed concern that Andhra Pradesh would become a desert in the coming years because of projects by Telangana government. He said the two Chief Ministers could discuss important issues like asset division under the 9th and 10th Schedule of the Constitution but not irrigation projects.
