Covid cases cross 1,800 mark in Chittoor district

Tirupati: The coronavirus cases have been increasing steadily in the district. The positive cases have touched 1,850 on Saturday while the death toll has reached to 14. During the last three days, six deaths took place as against the eight deaths during the previous three months. On Saturday, two deaths belonging to Tirupati were reported while another one belongs to Yerpedu.

Out of 14 constituencies in the district, five have crossed 200 positive cases. Tirupati urban crossed 300 cases while Srikalahasti reported more than 200 cases so far. By Saturday evening, there are about 1,200 active cases taking treatment at three hospitals and two Covid care centres. On Friday, 10 members of a same family in Madanapalle got infected with the virus which include two children.

Meanwhile, District Collector Dr N Bharat Gupta visited Ruia Covid hospital and Srinivasam Covid care centre on Saturday and reviewed the situation. He inspected the works at the new Covid ward at orthopaedics wing. He asked the officials to see that the staff have to work in three shifts round the clock to get the testing results soon. It may be noted that more than 5,000 samples are pending in the laboratories for testing.

At Srinivasam, the Collector asked the nodal officer to keep one TrueNat machine and officials and doctors have to discharge duties in shifts. The facility is having about 2,000 beds as it has 560 rooms and 9 dormitories. Joint Collector – Development V Veerabrahmam, Ruia superintendent Dr T Bharathi, Nodal officer Dr S Subba Rao, Dr Reddeppa, RMO Dr Harikrishna, Corporation Dy Commissioner Chandramouleeswara Reddy and others were present.
