Cyclone Amphan: Officials predicts high temperatures in Visakhapatnam after the storm

With the people across the state are concerned with the coronavirus pandemic, the Amphan cyclone which is considered as a super cyclone is sending the chills down the spines of the people belonging to the affected states mostly coastal Andhra, Odisha and West Bengal. The weather department officials said the Amphan cyclone which is centered about 1,000 km south of Paradip in Odisha, 1,160 km southwest of Digha in West Bengal and 1,220 km northwest of Kherrapura in Bangladesh expected to make landfall on May 20, Wednesday.

While the Amphan cyclone has its effect on Andhra Pradesh as well, Visakhapatnam Cyclone Warning Center warns that there will be slight rains, thunderstorms and lightning with speeds of 30 to 40 km per hour. Officials have issued a second warning for coastal areas and ports and advised the fishermen not to go for fishing.

However, the weather department officials said that after the cyclonic storm there is a chance of increasing temperatures in Visakhapatnam. They predicted that the temperatures would increase by 2 to 3 degrees higher, taking it to 34 to 35 degrees Celsius. "These temperatures are likely to rise further during the storm," the Vishaka Meteorological Department said.

The IMD officials predict that the cyclone Amphan is a very intense storm and is expected to amass large scale damage in West Bengal and Odisha. In Bengal, east Midnapore, south and north 24 Parganas, Howrah, Hooghly, and Kolkata are the most vulnerable areas while in Odisha, the Amphan cyclone is expected to cause severe damage in Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Bhadrak, Balasore, Jajpur and Mayurbhanj respectively.
