Vasantham2019: Explore nuances of dance-drama

Visakhapatnam: Artistes have a higher role to play than confining themselves to stage performances. There is a need to explore the nuances of dance-drama in a passionate manner and for this to become a reality, dancers should go beyond stage performances to promote the art form.

These were a few points highlighted by member of Sangeet Natak Academy Tadepalli at the lecture demonstration workshop 'Kuchipudi then and now: application of shastras' organised as part of the 'Vasantham – 2019', a Kuchipudi workshop at the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, Andhra University on Thursday.

From theatrical art Kuchipudi Yakshagana to the presentation of Bhamakalapam and Gollakalapam, footwork and style required for Kuchipudi dance drama were explained by Tadepalli through demonstrations and lecture to the participants. Children of various age groups attended the lecture demonstration which also included presentation of dance by artistes. It was attended by R Vasanth Kiran, a Kuchipudi dancer, who came from Bengaluru to lead the on-going workshop titled 'Kuchipudi Abhyasashala.'
