Greater Tirupati Corporation Plan
Tirupati: The Municipal Corporation Council on Tuesday approved a revised list of village panchayats proposed for merger with the Municipal Corporation of Tirupati (MCT), taking a significant step toward forming the long-awaited Greater Tirupati Corporation.
The fresh approval comes after a review of the council’s earlier Resolution No 279, passed on October 24, 2025, which sought to merge 63 villages with MCT. During scrutiny, officials identified errors in the initial list, including the inclusion of several revenue villages and habitations not meant for merger. After correcting duplications and removing ineligible entries, the number was reduced to 53 village panchayats. Subsequently, the district administration recommended further expansion. The Tirupati district collector proposed adding ten more villages located near urban limits and showing rapid urbanisation.
These panchayats include Brahmanapattu, Kuntrapakam, Gandhipuram, Perumallapalli, Pudipatla, Rayalapuram, Buchinaidupalle, Pitchinaidupalle, Atturu and C Ramapuram.
With these additions, the council on Tuesday approved a consolidated and fully vetted list of 63 village panchayats — restoring the original count but with an updated and accurate composition — for inclusion in the proposed Greater Tirupati Corporation. According to data presented at the meeting, the expanded civic body would span 300.40 sq km and accommodate nearly 7.86 lakh people. Its projected annual revenue is estimated at Rs 192.20 crore, excluding grants from the Central and State Finance Commissions.
Mayor Dr R Sirisha outlined the proposed boundaries: extending east and north up to IIT and IISER in Yerpedu mandal, west towards Kalyani Dam, southwest up to Rayala Cheruvu and southeast to Anjeramma Kanuma.
The council approved the boundary plan and resolved to forward the comprehensive proposal to the state government for final clearance.
Commissioner N Mourya, MP M Gurumoorthy, MLC Cipai Subramanyam and other officials attended the meeting.
