Prakasam dist wins national award

Ongole: The district administration’s dedicated efforts in rainwater harvesting have yielded significant results, successfully reviving depleted groundwater levels. The Central government recognised and lauded this work, awarding the district with a commendation certificate.

The Union Ministry of Jal Shakti was highly impressed by the water conservation works undertaken in the western region of Prakasam district as part of the watershed programme. In recognition of the district administration’s efforts, the “Second National Best Water Award” was announced.

District collector Raja Babu received the prestigious award from Union Minister of Jal Shakti CR Patil at the award ceremony held at Vigyan Bhavan in Delhi on Tuesday. Murugammi Gram Panchayat of Pedacherlopalli mandal in Kanigiri constituency was selected for the Sixth National Best Jal Panchayat Award.

Acknowledging the progress in water conservation, especially in the geologically challenging western part of Prakasam district, the Central government announced the Second National Best Award for the district.
