Row over ring seine net intensifies

Visakhapatnam: Mild tension prevailed as row over using ring seine net intensifies at the coast on Friday.

Some of the fishermen ventured into the sea carrying ring seine net for fishing at Peda Jalaripeta as traditional fishermen opposed it.

A large number of women came out to the shore protesting against the use of ring seine net for fishing.

Raising slogans, they demanded that the government should ban the use of ring seine nets and work towards enhancing the livelihood of the community.

It may be recalled that Fisheries Minister S. Appala Raju made it clear that fishing is banned using ring seine nets within 8-km from the coast.

Meanwhile, police arrived at Peda Jalaripeta to bring the situation under control.
