Students told to stay away from drugs
Vijayawada: An awareness session on narcotics and drugs for students was organised on Tuesday at the Tagore Library here as part of the 58th National Library Week celebrations. Adapa Naga Murali, Circle Inspector of Three Town Police Station, attended the programme as the chief guest.
Addressing the students, he explained that narcotics are substances that are extremely harmful to the human body and are commonly referred to as ‘drugs’ worldwide. He stressed that drug use is a dangerous addiction.
The CI said that the Central Government enacted the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act to combat drug abuse. He warned that those who cultivate or traffic these intoxicating substances are legally subject to stringent punishment.
He urged all students to maintain good conduct, stay away from such substances, study diligently and grow up to become responsible citizens of tomorrow.
The programme saw the participation of 250 students from various schools, along with college students. Others present included Sub-Inspector Nayak, Grade I Librarian K Ramadevi, and library staff.
