Three-day cultural fete organised in Vijayawada

Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh State Cultural Department and South Central Zone Cultural Centre jointly organised a three-day cultural festival at Ghantasala Venkateswara Rao Government Music and Dance College.

The first day programme began with a 'peacock dance' presented by Uttara Pradesh team. All the performers dressed up like peacocks performed the dance rhythmically. This was followed by a folk dance pertaining to the Punjab.

The West Bengal group represented with the dance piece "Chhau". The artistes performed a semi-classical Indian dance with martial, tribal and folk traditions. All the three items were attracted the audience well.

The second day programme started with 'Bhangra' dance showcased by the Punjab state team. Kabeliya is a dance from Rajasthan, which is an integral part of their culture and performed by men and women. The 'Holi' dance of Uttar Pradesh, a dance based on mythology of Radha Krishna love was performed.

On the final day, Punjab and Uttar Pradesh dancers performed Chhau and Holi dances and received appreciations. Manipuri and Haryana dancers also represented and impressed the audience with their performances.

A total of 120 artistes took part in the festival during the three days festival organized in commemoration of 150th birthday of Mahatma Gandhi. Viswakarma, representative of South Central Zone Cultural Zone, Lakshmi Kumari, Director, Andhra Pradesh Cultural department and others were present.
