Tirupati: Siddha medicine proves effective for Covid patients

Tirupati: At a time when the entire mankind across the globe is suffering from the outbreak of Covid-19, enhancing the body's immunity assumes importance to ward off threat from deadly virus. Since there is no medicine for the virus as of now, taking preventive measures and boosting immunity are the only options before everyone.

Towards this goal, ministry of AYUSH recommended some self-care guidelines for preventive health measures and respiratory health. Siddha system of medicine which is part of AYUSH is one of the traditional systems of medicine and gives hope for the present pandemic, said Dr K Samraj, the in-charge of Siddha Clinical Research Unit (SCRU) here.

Speaking to The Hans India on the initiative, Dr Samraj explained that the selective drugs with unique formulations are being distributed to the public. They are proven to enhance immunity and have antiviral property. Kaba Sura Kudineer (kashayam or potion) is one among the formulations noted in the AYUSH guidelines for the purpose. "We have been distributing this to patients at Sri Padmavati Covid care centre, Vikruthamala quarantine centre, and Thummalagunta containment zone to make the effort successful among the population," he maintained. The medicine Kaba Sura Kudineer has 15 herbal ingredients and is a proven antiviral property particularly against respiratory pathogens.

Dr Samraj explained that following the advisory from district collector Dr N Bharat Gupta to Covid care centre, two asymptomatic positive patients were given the integrative treatment with modern medicine hydroxychloroquine and vitamin C and Siddha medicine Kaba Sura Kudineer. They got negative result and discharged in five days while seven more cases are under observation along with more than 250 primary and secondary people in quarantine.
