Welcoming the new year may feel a bit different this year. For many people, the yearly date change , adding one more year to their life, leads to the tradition of New Year's resolutions, a chance to consider the progress on becoming something many people hope to achieve by the end of their days.

A new year may encourage people to think long-term goals but this year, thinking about the long-term is much more difficult. The pandemic has given us all a different experience of time. The pandemic has not only served as a visceral reminder that something unexpected can land in our well-envisioned path, halting all progress. It has also made the path beyond the pandemic unclear. Here are some resolutions for 2021 by a few students as told to The Hans India:

Be patient

Although 2020 was a year of ups and downs and was filled with epiphanies, we made it through, so my resolutions would be to be patient and trust time. 2020 made me more aware of who I am and what I'm like on the inside, so in 2021 I'm going to be more aware. The pandemic took a toll on our health, both mental and physical, so I would be sure to put my health first and be aware of the fact that I do not have to be perfect all the time. Whenever things get out of hand I'd make sure to say the serenity prayer and keep calm. Most of all I'd strive to be a better person everyday.

Live responsibly

The pandemic has revealed the imbalances in our entire system today and the importance of living responsibly in coexistence with nature. Thus, one of my new year resolutions for 2021 would be to contribute towards restoring the balance in whatever ways I can and working towards sustainability. On the personal front, another resolution would be to give more importance to my mental health and inner peace and learn to be more calm and fulfilled.

Improve relationships

This year I intend to spread the message of sustainability and make many more people aware about menstrual cups as it's healthy, economical and eco friendly. On a personal level, I aspire to be consistent and dedicated towards my goal of becoming an Actuary. I want to learn to be a more responsible and peaceful person. Also, I would like to bring the relatives closer. Due to the pandemic most of us couldn't meet. But thanks to technology which can connect us. I hope we can together resolve issues and spread smiles.

Expect more joy

2020 was a year that was so unexpected full of ups and downs . But I'm wanting 2021 to be much more fun. 2020 had taken away from all of us and need that freedom to work and live freely like before and this fear of the virus needs to get eradicated... so cheers to 2021 may this year bring us peace , happiness , luck and good health and be a world free from this virus and live happily ever after.

Enjoy uncertainty

Covid has come as a lesson that humans can't enjoy certainty. Though the knowledge is not new, but this time it has driven deep in mind, threatening to last the average lifetime. So having received this new knowledge, I can't enact anymore a fool on the so-called world-a-stage; however playing new roles, of a carefree child, and at other times, of a traveller, all as per own rules, does seem sensible. This street-walking pandemic, such that everyone has to be at home till it is taking the drive, has brought me back to my senses.
