Junior Athletics Championship- Social Welfare Residential students set national records

Hyderabad: Nandini of Social Welfare Residential School, Narsingi gave commendable performance in Heptathlon, under-18 category, and broke Swapna Barman's six years-old national record at the South Zone National Junior Athletics Championship, 2019 held at Mangalore, Karnataka, from September 14-15. Nandini clinched the gold medal with 5046 points (Swapna Barman's record 4992 points) and she also proved her mettle in 100mts hurdles and bagged silver medal in this category. The event saw participants from Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Puducherry and Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

Social welfare residential students bagged 2 gold, 3 silver and 2 bronze medals at this event and all these students were trained by Dronacharya awardee Nagapuri Ramesh.

The Minister for Social Welfare Koppula Eshwar congratulated the medallists for bringing laurels to the state of Telangana. He said, the Social Welfare Residential Educational Society set up 23 Sports Academies under the KG-PG Mission, with a goal to groom the marginalised children into sportspersons of national and international repute. The minister further added that the students of sports academies were provided top notch coaching under the guidance of expert coaches.

Dr RS Praveen Kumar, Secretary, TSWREIS thanked the chief minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao and the minister for Social Welfare Koppula Eshwar for their support to welfare residential educational institutions under the KG-PG Mission.
