Talking through the journey of the college, Malla Reddy Engineering College (MREC) Principal Dr Sudhakara Reddy said that the institute was established by CMR education society in the year 2002 by CH Malla Reddy he is a member of parliament-Malkajgiri Constituency, Founder Chairman-MREC. He is from agricultural background in his own grandmother village in 10 acres campus he established this campus with four branches of M. Tech in the year 2002, to provide quality education to the rural and backward areas of Ranga Reddy and Medak district in the state of Telangana.

Take us through the growth of Malla Reddy Engineering College

Malla Reddy Engineering College (MREC) is the parent college of the Malla Reddy Group of institutions, founded by Ch Malla Reddy. The institute was established in 2002 under the aegis of CMR education Society and is approved by the AICTE New Delhi. It is affiliated to Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University Hyderabad (JNTUH).

In 2008, the college was accredited by NBA. The college has been certified by NAAC as an A grade institute in the Hyderabad region. The college has been granted permanent affiliation and autonomous university status by JNTU in 2001.

Since 2002, the college has grown by leaps and bounds under the stewardship of Ch Malla Reddy who is now a member of parliament-Malkajgiri Constituency. He comes from an agricultural background and has developed the campus in 10 acres with four branches of M Tech with an intention to provide quality education to students of Ranga Reddy and Medak districts.

His aim was to transform the education institution to produce global engineers. Malla Reddy's sons; Mahendar Reddy and Badhra Reddy leave no stone unturned in providing infrastructure facilities and ensure that the colleges functions smoothly.

By starting eight engineering colleges out of which two colleges are for women. Consequently, the group ventured into medical education and started medical colleges, including a medical, dental and MBA College for women.

What makes your institutions special?

MREC works on the premises that every student has a potential and we would want to see them transform from an ordinary engineer into a global professional. We also endeavour to make them think innovatively, rather than just become robots. Our aim is to churn out all-rounded individuals who can provide solutions to problems.

What are the courses offered?

Civil Engineering (CE), Electronic and communication engineering (ECE), Mechanical Engineering (ME), Electronic and electronics Engineering (EEE), Computer Science and Engineering (CSE), mining Engineering (Min, E), Information Technology (IT), Master of Business administration (MBA), M. Tech (Structural Engineering, Electrical Power System, Thermal Engineering, Machine Design, Embedded Systems, Computer science and Engineering).

What are the facilities at MREC?

The campus is spread over 10 acres with excellent infrastructure with spacious classrooms. We have separate hostels for boys and girls. The college believes strongly on ragging and have a zero acceptance policy. An anti ragging committee has been established and stringent action is taken when incidents come to our notice. The college believes that just classroom lectures are not enough and a library with 50,000 books has been set up.

We provide "buffet system" education for students so that they can choose anything of their interest. We have a system to bring guest lectures and professionals from the industry on a regular basis. Training camps are conducted for students and tips given on how to crack interviews.

We introduced alumni chapters in the USA, UK, Germany, Canada, and Australia. As part of social responsibility our students have educated villagers about HIV and other diseases. We also identify poor students and support them to complete their studies apart from identifying the villages which have low literacy rate and conducting awareness camps.

Tell us about sports facilities

We encourage the students in taking sports. We have good infrastructure for sports such as football, tennis, chess, and cricket. There are good grounds spread across the campus. One of our students, Appanna got state best volunteer award for his active participation in community service under NSS. Recently, we also requested for Unnat Bharat Abhiyan and proposed to adopt five villages in Malkajgiri and Medak.

What about the teaching staff?

We have 55 PhDs, 240 teaching and 150 non teaching staff. The total strength of the college is 4,400. Every year we conduct in-house training for the faculty on the latest developments in pedagogy. We bring experts in each discipline and experts from the industry and see that how it could be embedded in the curriculum. A board of studies expert nominated by the university is also present.

Tell us about placements

We have robust placement and our students have been placed in world's best multinational companies such as Infosys, IBM, Amazon, Tech Mahindra, Genpact, ICICI Bank, ib HUBS, Think and Learn, Just Dial, Value Labs, HANSA solution, GGK tech, HSBC and many more. The placement cell provides opportunities to work in global market. Many students have received packages varying from Rs 7 lakh to Rs 10 lakh.
