Dubai announces UAE will celebrate Eid on Sunday
The Dubai Media Office announced that for the United Arab Emirates, Eid will be on Sunday May 24.
As was predicted by astronomical forecasters, the Shawwal crescent moon was not seen on Friday.
That means Ramadan goes on another day, and Shawwal begins with the Eid festivities the day after that.
What is Eid al-Fitr?
Eid al-Fitr means "festival of breaking the fast" and marks the end of Ramadan.
Traditionally, Eid is celebrated for three days in all Muslim-majority countries.
