13 children rescued from hard labour; 2 arrested

Balapur: Police nabbed two persons on Thursday for involving in child trafficking and child labour and were remanded by the court. Police also rescued 13 children, who were detained by the accused persons. The accused persons were identified as Mohammad Muzammil (32) and Mohammad Adbul Muthalif (30).

According to police, on Tuesday night a complaint was lodged at Balapur police station by S Anjaneyulu Goud, working as Assistant Labour Officer, Ibrahimpatnam in which he stated that he received reliable information about exploitation of minor children aged between 08 and 18 years for labour work such as making bangles, fixing chankis and stones to the bangles in at Bawazeer Colony in Kothapet. They were found detained in a rented room.

On a tip-off, police rushed to the spot and rescued 13 children who were forced into doing labour by Mohammad Muzammil and Mohammad Adbul Muthalif. The accused got hold of children from Bihar State for employment by inducing their parents and paying them some money. They brought 13 children to Hyderabad and were exploiting the children for manufacturing of bangles at their units.

Children were kept at manufacturing units and made to work continuously from 6 am to 11 pm without any break. They were locked up in a house and were provided food which was stale and stinking. They were also provided proper accommodation and other required amenities. All the children were kept in one congested room and were treated as slave labourers by the duo.

Police on Thursday arrested the accused persons at Kothapet village in the early hours. They admitted their guilt. They were later produced before the V Additional Metropolitan Magistrate cum V Additional Junior Civil Judge at LB Nagar who remanded them in judicial custody.
