Bapu Ghat gears up to celebrate 150th Gandhi Jayanthi

Langar Houz: On the eve of 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, the memorial building 'Bapu Ghat' at Langar Houz is gearing up to pay tribututes to the father of the nation.

Officials of tourism department have made arrangements at Bapu Ghat to receive the guests and luminaries from all walks of life to pay their rich tribute on the eve of Gandhi's birth anniversary.

Foolproof security arrangement has been put in place by the security agencies in view of the visits of governor, CM and the luminaries. Special security personnel are being deployed in and around the Ghat to facilitate peaceful conclusion of Gandhi Jayanthi.

"This is the only Ghat in South India after the Raj Ghat in Delhi that housed the ashes of Gandhiji. The brief history behind the formation Bapu Ghat gives more insight to struggle made by the Gandhians to bring the ashes of father of the nation from Raj Ghat to immerse at confluence of rivers Musi and Esi (a tributary of Musi river) on 12th February 1948," said K. Rajshekher Supervisor Telangana Tourism Development Corporation.

Only twice in the year i.e. on 2nd October and 30th January the Ghat is in the news. The building consists of a prayer hall, a library and an interactive museum called "Peace Truth Ahimsa museum." The notable thing to see here is a 76-feet long collage wall (considered to be the largest in the world) featuring more than 400 pictures of Gandhiji.

As per the tentative schedule, the Governor of Telangana Tamilisai Soundararajan will visit the Ghat today at about 10.30am in the morning followed by Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao to pay their floral tribute to the Mahatma.

"Soon after offering wreaths at Ghat, the governor and the CM will attend the prayer hall where people from all walks of life and leaders, irrespective of political affiliation spend few minutes and pay their homage to father of nation. Later on, they reached to Statue of Mahatma Gandhi at the entrance and would pay another round of floral tribute to Gandhi ji as a mark of respect," he added.
