Civic body apathy brings model colony to its knees

Update: 2019-11-07 00:37 IST

Kondapur: Gautami Enclave is one of the prime colonies in the area. The residents here took up several green initiatives such as rainwater harvesting, segregation of waste and planting saplings, for which the colony received an award from GHMC.

However, lack of water supply is the biggest problem the colony faces now-a-days. Janardhan Reddy, president, Gauthami Enclave Society, said, "We manage everything in the colony. But we do not get enough water. The pipelines are old, and a drain is overflowing behind the colony park which needs to be fixed."

Archana, a resident, said, "After we requested the officials concerned for several days, the HMWSSB supplied water two days ago and that too for just 15 minutes. We are totally dependent on private water tankers who are charging Rs 6,000 for 6,000 liters of water."

Pavan, supervisor of the colony, said, "GHMC sends two tankers for the whole colony once in three days, whereas the requirement is a minimum of 15-30 tankers."

Gayatri, a resident, said, "The pipelines are 6 mm and very old, which is not sufficient to the needs of the 1,500 families living here, as it was built only to cater to around 400 families." Sridhar from the colony says that stray dogs menace is another problem.
