Concern over growing violation of SC/ST Acts


Hyderabad: Dalit Sthree Sakthi, an NGO working for the uplift of SCs, expressed serious concern over the increasing violation of acts meant for protecting the SC and ST communities in Telangana.

Addressing a roundtable conference here on Thursday, organisation's national convenor G Jhansi said the accused booked under the SC, ST Atrocities (Prevention) Act were going scot free due to the government's non- serious attitude in addressing the cases fast.

She alleged that encroachment of lands owned by SCs, kidnap and atrocities against women and damage of crops cultivated by dalit families in villages were being reported regularly in the State. The State government officials said that the pending 24 serious cases would be addressed on a priority basis soon. State Social Welfare Commissioner Yogita Rana, Women Welfare Commissioner Divya Devraj and other officials were present.
