Dabeerpura nala works come to a standstill

Update: 2019-08-29 02:29 IST

Dabeerpura: Owing to lack of coordination between GHMC and HMWSSB, the works of the Dabeerpura nala came to a standstill about a month back. In spite of visit of Hyderabad MP, Asaduddin Owaisi recently, there appears to be no progress.

As part of developmental works in Old City and for monsoon, Dabeerpura nala works were sanctioned. Following a visit of the GHMC Commissioner along with local MLA, the works were started around 3 months back at a cost of Rs 1.9 crore which includes desilting, removal of debris and constructing new pillar and a slab. "If the works of the nala were completed there will be no water logging problem during rains, in the surrounding areas.

Even on normal days, the drain gets choked and keeps overflowing all over the locality. But whenever it rains, the entire area gets flooded. But the works of the nala came to a standstill almost a month back. Even after the local MLA and Hyderabad MP along with GHMC Zonal Commissioner had a visited last week, the works are yet to get started", said Abdul Rahman, Social Worker.

Speaking to The Hans India Abdul Rahman said the desilting works of the nala were taken up around 2 months back. He alleged that the authorities took up construction works without proper removal of wastage. They are removing the accumulated waste upto 3 feet. If they remove minimum of 6-8 feet it will serve for years. With the sanctioned amount of around Rs 2 crore, the works should have been more effective," he explained.

Abdul Rahman said that the works were being taken up in unscientific manner appears to be shoddy and may not survive in the coming years. "I believe there may be deviation from the original plan, even though huge amount has been sanctioned," he added.

Residents feel that when this nala can overflow in normal days, nothing can be said when it rains heavily. "Since the works are going on, the nala remained open. In the recent rains water was flowing all over the roads," said Emraan Khan, a resident. He also said that due to the open nala, foul smell emanates and the people in surrounding areas are falling sick.

Mohammed Hameed, another resident, said that it has been 3 months since the works were started. The size of the road has shrunk and local witness regular traffic jams, as it remains the main road connecting Dabeerpura and Purani Haveli", he added.
