GHMC neglects pleas to save greenery

Update: 2019-05-22 02:19 IST

Attapur: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) Horticulture Wing that has developed parks with lawns and others as part of 'Haritha Haram' has now more or less turned a deaf ear to pleas of the colonies/associations that took an active part in maintaining the same.

According to Nalandanagar Welfare Association from Nalandanagar Colony (AG Colony), Attapur, GHMC Horticulture wing has developed two parks with lawns and otherslowering plants as part of 'Haritha Haram' and handed them over to Nalandanagar Welfare Association for maintenance.

Till the end of April, the association did not face any problem in maintaining the parks as there was sufficient water in the bore wells dug by the GHMC in all the parks. However, from May first week, the bore wells in the two parks (walkers park and temple park) dried up.

The welfare association approached the GHMC authorities/horticulture wing for supply of water through tank as immediate relief for saving the greenery and by digging new bore wells in the two parks as permanent measure. Representations were also given to the zonal commissioner. (South Zone), as well as the Commissioner of GHMC in this regard. Unfortunately, there has been no response from the GHMC authorities.

Even otherwise, with the cooperation of the residents and walkers of the park, the association has been purchasing water from private operators for the last one month and saving the parks without going dry. "But it is a herculean task for the welfare association with meager resources to maintain water supply to the two parks through purchase through private tankers.

We appeal to the GHMC authorities once again to ensure water supply either through water tankers regularly or by digging new bore wells to save the beautiful and well-maintained parks of the colony," said the association members. Nalandanagar Colony is a HMDA approved layout and developed by AG Office Cooperative Housing Society Limited, way back in 1996.
