Jamai Osmania flyover cries for attention

Update: 2019-12-01 23:19 IST

Secunderabad: The Jamai Osmania flyover on the Tarnaka- Nallakunta road has been lying in a deplorable condition for the past several years.

As half the portion of the bridge comes under the Musheerabad zone and the other portion falls under the Secunderabad zone, it is resulting in conflict between the two zones, due to which commuters plying on this route are paying the price.

The lane has a lot of potholes and the support joints between the two slabs of the bridge have come out. The gravel laid to fill the potholes has not been levelled properly. The 22-meter bridge was opened in 2007 which brought great relief to the residents of Warasiguda, Tarnaka and Nallakunta. At present, the flyover has fallen in a state of negligence and needs urgent repairs.

According to K Ravi Kumar, the GHMC Deputy Commissioner, Secunderabad, "The projected portion of the bridge that comes under the Secunderabad area is well-maintained and the affected portion does not come under our jurisdiction."

"Jamai Osmania flyover does not come under our jurisdiction. It comes under the Secunderabad area," said Uma Prakash, the GHMC Deputy Commissioner, Musheerabad.

"Lack of maintenance led to the collapse of the pedestrian portion of the bridge. As the road between two joints is exposed and whenever we are passing on the portion, we are facing a lot of difficulties and can feel the vibration of vehicles.

The traffic is worse during the peak hours and it takes at least 15 to 20 minutes to pass from this lane every day because of the terrible state of the road," said Syed Khaled Chishti Hussaini, the joint secretary of Tarnaka Residents Welfare Association.

"The flyover has become a dangerous stretch due to poor maintenance and the officials concerned should take up the work at the earliest and this time they should carry out total asphalting, instead of patchwork," Shirisha, a resident of Warasiguda.
