Hyderabad: The Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports organised the “Unity March – Mera Yuva Bharat” programme in Malkajgiri constituency on Tuesday to commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of India’s Iron Man, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. The march began at the statue of Dr B R Ambedkar in Anandbagh and concluded at the statue of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel in Sardar Patel Nagar. The event drew enthusiastic participation from youth, students, and local residents, reflecting the spirit of unity and patriotism.

MP Etela Rajender, who attended as the chief guest, addressed the gathering and described Patel as “the proud son of Mother India” whose vision and leadership united the country during its most challenging times. “The freedom we enjoy today is the result of the sacrifices of many. It is our duty to remember their sacrifices and carry forward their legacy,” he said.

Rajender highlighted Patel’s monumental role in integrating over 500 princely states into the Indian Union, calling it a feat of courage and statesmanship. He emphasised that the Prime Minister is organising such festivals nationwide to instill patriotism and strengthen the feeling of unity among citizens. The march in Malkajgiri was part of a larger national initiative to honour Patel’s contributions and inspire the younger generation. Participants carried banners and chanted slogans celebrating national integration, while cultural performances added vibrancy to the programme.

The event concluded with floral tributes at Patel’s statue and a pledge to uphold the values of unity, sacrifice, and service to the nation.
