Techie-cum-fitness freak turns yoga guru

Hyderabad: "He is probably the first person to have developed a six-pack with yoga," says Mani Naidu who was with Mayur Karthik at Begumpet. The potential of yoga is such that one can take it up as per one's need – for happiness or fitness.

  3. "Stress is when you have too much to do, very little time to do it and no energy to do the task," says Gurudev, "But what you can do is increase your energy. Pranayama (breathing exercises), meditation and Sudarshan Kriya give you more energy for the day and makes you more productive."

Mayur, a Master in Biological Sciences and B Tech in Electronics and Instrumentation from BITS Pilani, was always a fitness freak but a course in Sudershan Kriya in 2009 was the turning point in his life.

"I was a hardcore fitness freak and used to go to the gym regularly but the yearning to experience yoga in the highest form and to get to know the real essence of yoga led me to the Sri Sri School of Yoga," he said.

This was in 2011. Mayur was spotted by Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, founder of Art of Living who taught him Yoga, and today he leads yoga sessions for many programmes and courses at the Art of Living International Centre, Bengaluru.

At present, in Hyderabad for a four-day detox programme at the Manas Ganga Ashram at Narsingi, he says, thanks to the Modi Government, yoga has received a fillip and people from all walks are getting interested in it. Many are now looking at yoga as a career, he says. What is interesting is youth are taking up yoga in a big way and it augurs well for society.

When asked how one chooses a particular type of yoga as there are so many variants, he says, "One can take up according to one's need. For happiness, there is no parell. A lot of healing happens, the mind becomes clear, memory becomes trauma free, body becomes healthy and the mind becomes focused. Life becomes enriched."
