Visakhapatnam: A panchayat secretary was caught by the Anti-Corruption Bureau officials for accepting bribe from a labourer at Golagam Gram panchayat of Anakapalli district on Tuesday.
According to ACB DSP Ramya, Thota Babji of Golagam panchayat is working as a labourer.
After the death of Babji’s father Eswara Rao, the complainant approached panchayat secretary Kosireddy Kanaka Babu to transfer the property tax in his name and produced necessary documents for it. However, the secretary demanded Rs 10,000 for the name transfer. After making a bargain for Rs 7,000 with the official, the complainant raised a complaint with the ACB officials on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, the ACB sleuths laid a trap and nabbed the secretary red handed when Babji was handing over Rs 7,000 cash to the official.
Speaking on the occasion, ACB DSP Ramya said officers should serve the people and render their duty in a transparent manner. She warned that those who accept bribes would not be spared. She mentioned that a case has been registered against Kanaka Babu and sent to remand.
