Allegations of Yeddyurappa creates outrage between BJP and Congress

NEW DELHI/BENGALURU: On Friday, a political fight broke as the former Karnataka chief minister BS Yeddyurappa had alleged over pages of a diary that purportedly referred to huge payments by the BJP leaders. The charges made by Yeddyurappa were denied by BJP; the Congress had claimed that, the authorities were suppressing the diary revelation.

The loose pages were the publications of a magazine which led to fresh trading of charges over the sheets which were handed over by DK Shivakumar the Karnataka Congress leader to the authorities of income-tax during a raid at his residence.

The government was accused by the Congress of covering up the payoffs which were written down in the pages that read BJP leaders LK Advani, MM Joshi, Arun Jaitley, Rajnath Singh and Nitin Gadkari who were paid in hundreds of crores.

"I-T officials have probed the issue and found the documents, signatures and handwritten notes forged," Yeddyurappa said in a statement.

According to a Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) statement, he had told the authorities that, he was not habituated to writing diaries and denied the signatures. However, things took an interesting turn when the pages bore the alleged signature of Yeddyurappa along with comments such as the alleged promise made by Bellary Reddy of making Yeddyurappa CM.

A statement of CBDT had issued a statement in which it said, "The same loose sheets appear to be of a doubtful nature and were given by the person who was being raided for tax violations."

The report on the papers had claimed an official note which stated that the allegations were not probed and allegedly Shivakumar was being blackmailed to break from the Congress before the Lok Sabha polls. The report claimed that, the handwritten entries were made on the pages with dates January 17 and 18 in a 2009 Karnataka legislators' diary.
