Basa brothers call on Prez

Bhubaneswar: National Monuments Authority Chairman Kishor Basa and his twin brother Ashok Basa, Chair, Strategic Planning Committee, World Federation of Engineering Organisations (WFEO), called on President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Tuesday.

Kishor Basa apprised the President of issues related to cultural and tribal development of Odisha. During their meeting, he sought establishment of National Institute of Tribal Development (NITD) at Rairangpur in Mayurbhanj district under the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, citing its strategic location and concentration of tribal population in Odisha, Jharkhand and West Bengal.

He said the institute could be modelled on the lines of National Institute of Rural Development in Hyderabad.Kishor Basa also sought the President’s attention regarding the cultural preservation of Jhumar song and dance form. Jhumar symbolises the cultural integration of tribes and castes across geographical region extending from Odisha, Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand to West Bengal and Assam.
