Parliament Day 2 Updates: Issues ranging from SPG to JNU protests addressed

New Delhi: The parliament was in session this morning amid massive JNU protests. The MPs have been allocated the task of going through and voting for several bills. Here are the updates from the session, before lunch:

• To kick off the day, the Congress gave its Adjournment Motion Notice in Lok Sabha over the withdrawal of Special Protection Group (SPG) protection for Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi.

• Rajya Sabha MPs: KTS Tulsi, RK Sinha, Vijay Goel, Narendra Jadhav and GVL Narasimha Rao have given a zero-hour notice on the increasing air pollution problem in India, particularly affecting the northern states.

• Trinamool Congress (TMC), Revolutionary Socialist Party (RSP) and Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) and gave an Adjournment Motion Notice in the Lok Sabha regarding the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) protests over fee hike.

• Congress MPs protested against the privatisation of Numaligarh Refinery on Tuesday. Meanwhile, slogans of 'tanashahi bandh karo, bandh karo' by the Opposition as Question Hour begins in Lok Sabha. The first question in the House was on doubling of farmers' income by 2022.

• When MPs in Rajya Sabha raised concerns over Jammu and Kashmir and Jawaharlal Nehru row, the Upper House was adjourned till 2 PM.

• The Rajya Sabha chairman Venkaiah Naidu has asked the secretariat to revisit dress code for marshals upon receiving suggestions to include Indian-style dressing in the uniform.

• Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla warned members of the Opposition against creating a havoc in the house. "There might have been precedents of protesting in the Well. From today onwards, no (member) will protest in the Well. If not, I will be forced to take action," he said in an assertive statement.
