Undergo eye-tests twice a year: Ophthalmologist

Guntur: Service Health Organisation premises hosted a free retinopathy check-up camp on Sunday. Ophthalmologist Sankara Rao presided over the event and urged patients suffering from high blood pressure and diabetes to be very careful and undergo retinopathy tests once every six months. He further informed that the diabetes patients might get retinopathy, despite the sugar and blood pressure levels being under control.

Addressing the gathering, he stressed on need to keep BP and diabetes in control. “Due to retinopathy, the patient may suddenly lose vision. It was difficult to treat patients of retinopathy.” He said that if retinopathy was identified in its first stage, treatment is possible and the patient might gain back sight. 

He added that the patient should always practice physical exercises to keep BP and sugar in control. Dr T Seva Kumar who presided over the meeting said that the number of diabetics was increasing in the country and felt there was a need to create awareness on precautionary measures to avoid diabetes.
