Jumbo movement spotted

Srikakulam: Locals alerted officials of the Forest department on spotting movement of wild elephants at Garlapadu area on Monday evening. Garlapadu area is spread over Hira and LN Peta mandals where Vamsadhara reservoir works are going on.

On receiving the information, district forest officials have informed Forest Range Officers (FROs) of Palakonda and Pathapatnam. It is learnt that tuskers have strayed into Garlapadu from Ponnuturu in Kotturu mandal.

FROs have passed on information to Forest Section Officers (FSOs) and elephant trackers. The FSOs and elephant trackers made an appeal to people not to provoke elephants.

Locals were told to be on high alert as a youngster was killed in an attack by herd of stray elephants in Kotturu mandal. Garlapadu is densely populated where people movement is high compared to Ponnuturu agency in Kotturu mandal.
