Krishnadevaraya’s coronation day celebrated

Vijayawada: Sri Krishnadevaraya 509th coronation day was celebrated at the Cultural Centre of Vijayawada and Amaravati here on Tuesday.

Recipient of Kendra Sahitya Academy Award Dr Venna Vallabha Rao attended as chief guest of the function and said that the two decades of Krishnadevaraya rule was considered as golden epoch in the history of south India.

Dr E Sivanagi Reddy, CEO, CCVA presented a brief history and achievements of Krishnadevaraya and said that he stayed a day at Srikakulam Temple and started writing Amuktamalyada seized Kondapalli Fort and stayed for a week in Vijayawada on the occasion.  

He also said that the period witnessed a holistic development in all walks of life including arts, crafts, letters, trade and agriculture.

Golla Narayana Rao, secretary, Andhra Arts Academy briefed on his eastern campaigns and highlighted his spirit of cultural harmony. 

Being a Kannada King, he wrote on a Tamil devotee Godadevi in Telugu language.

Dr Gumma Sambasiva Rao, former Vice- Principal, Andhra Loyola College spoke on the Bhuvanavijayam and literary contribution of Astadiggajas under his patronage. 

Dr GV Poornachand, secretary, Krishna District Writers Association said that Krishnadevaraya in his Amuktamalyada gave a lot of guidance to the reeling community which bears relevance even today.

Harmohinder Singh Sahani, president, AP Sikh Association reiterated that a king lives forever not by his victories but for his munificence in upholding the customs, traditions and culture and it was true in case of Sri Krishnadevaraya.

Sandeep Mandava, CEO, Malaxmi Property, Deepa Balasubramanyam, Head, Corporate Affairs, Chimpiraiah, of Malaxmi Group and others were present.
